Simrad GPX Import Instructions

Simrad: The Pro’s Guide to Importing the Motherlode

Simrad units are the workhorses of the offshore world. They handle data like a champ, but even the best offshore rig needs a little guidance when it’s time to load up a massive library of coordinates.

To get our premium packages onto your Simrad, follow the "Path of the Pro." It’s a straightforward process, but remember: your machine is a gatekeeper—you have to tell it to let the fish in.

Step-by-Step: From Download to Deck

  1. Prep the Card: Once you download your Fish On GPX file, copy it directly onto the "root" of your SD card (that’s tech-speak for "don't hide it inside three different folders").
  2. The Handshake: Insert the card into your Simrad unit and power it up.
  3. The Navigation: Press the "Pages" (or Home) button. Look for the tool labeled "Files" or "Storage" (usually found in the side menu or under "Waypoints, Routes, and Trails").
  4. Find the Goods: On the Files screen, select your memory card. You’ll see your Fish On GPX file sitting there waiting for you.
  5. The Final Strike: Select the file and hit "Import." Your Simrad will give you a progress bar. Once it hits 100%, those spots are officially burned into your machine’s memory.

⚠️ CRITICAL UPDATE: The Simrad App Warning (June 2025)

Please Read Before Using the Simrad Mobile App: Since the June 2025 update, the Simrad mobile companion app has developed a "technical hiccup" when handling large data sets. The app currently caps GPX imports at 100 spots. > Because Fish On packages are extensive—often containing hundreds or even thousands of premium coordinates—trying to sync them through the phone app will cause errors, missing data, and general havoc.

Our Advice: Skip the app for the initial upload. Stick to the Physical SD Card method described above. Your chartplotter hardware can handle thousands of spots without breaking a sweat, even if the app can't.

Why Simrad Anglers Love Fish On

Whether you’re hunting the "Elbow" for Gag Grouper or hitting the mitigation reefs for American Red Snapper, Simrad’s processing power makes our dense packages easy to navigate. Our GPX files are fully compatible with Simrad’s native software, giving you high-resolution icons and accurate depths.

Pro Tips for Simrad:

  • Don't use the App: As of June 2025, the Simrad App fails on files with >100 spots. Use the physical SD card slot on your machine to handle our extensive packages.
  • The "Wait" Factor: If you’re importing 1,000+ spots, give the machine about 30 seconds to "index" them before you start scrolling.
  • Check the Symbols: If spots don't appear, ensure your waypoints are visible under Chart Options > Layer > Waypoints.
