Recommended Apps - To load, manage and transfer GPX files.

The following applications are all capable of importing GPX files 

A home PC to manage waypoints using Garmin Basecamp. This is a Windows/Mac app that is capable of importing, exporting and mass editing multiple GPX files. This is highly recommended if you have over 5000 waypoints. Transferring files between basecamp and active captain, Navionics or SD cards will be covered in a future blog post.

Navionics is a great waypoint management application that is more recently known as Boating HD. However, there was a severe limitation in that the app was only capable of holding 1000 GPX waypoints. Recently a new version was released that will support many more. Make sure you update to the newest version.

 

Fish on recommends Garmin chart plotters and Garmin's Active Captain mobile application. It is available on both Android and IOS platforms and supports GPX waypoint collections up to 5000 locations. Garmin Chartplotters have an excellent file management system allowing you to select, import, export and over write existing files on a high capacity CD card. Very handy if you travel with your boat to multiple areas.

 

The Simrad App - Synchronise your planning data with your Simrad® multifunction display anytime, anywhere. The Simrad® App allows you the freedom and flexibility to save your waypoints, routes and tracks in the app at home or on your display on the water and simply synchronise the two at any time.

 

The Lowrance App - With all the latest and most detailed charts from C-MAP®, the Lowrance App gives you the most accurate charting and layers on a mobile device, allowing you to easily manage your favourite waypoints, discover new fishing spots and plan your next trip in advance. Simply step on board sync your data with your Lowrance device and spend more time fishing, saving any top spots for future trips.
