Subject: Critical Information Regarding GPX File Import Failures and App Stability Issues

Dear Valued Simrad App Users,

We are issuing this bulletin to address ongoing technical challenges related to recent Simrad App updates and their impact on the import and loading of your crucial GPX formatted files. We understand the frustration and inconvenience these issues have caused, and we appreciate your patience as our teams work diligently to resolve them.

Issue 1: App Crashes with Homeport GPX Files (Symbol XML Data)

Following a recent Simrad App update, users have reported crashes when attempting to access or load existing GPX files, particularly those originally created in Homeport. Our investigation has determined that this issue stems from a change in the app's internal handling of symbol XML data within GPX files.

It appears that the updated Simrad App was designed to expect additional data elements for symbols. When these newly required data elements are missing from older Homeport GPX files, the app is unable to process the file correctly and, unfortunately, results in a crash. We are actively working on a solution to ensure the app can gracefully handle these legacy GPX files and eliminate crashes.

Issue 2: Import Functionality Broken (Ongoing)

Additionally, we acknowledge a critical issue that has persisted for approximately three months, breaking the general import functionality for various file types within the Simrad App. This issue exclusively affects the Simrad App on both Android and iOS platforms and does not impact SD card imports directly to your Simrad MFDs.

Our development teams are fully aware of this bug and are dedicating significant resources to its resolution. We understand the severe impact this has on your ability to manage and utilize your navigational data directly within the app.

Current Status and Our Commitment:

We sincerely apologize for the prolonged nature of these issues. Please be assured that:

  • We have identified the core causes of these import and stability problems.
  • Our engineering teams are actively developing fixes for both the symbol XML-related crashes and the general import function failure.
  • We are prioritizing these resolutions to restore full functionality to your Simrad App as quickly as possible.

We will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available, including timelines for upcoming patches or workarounds. In the interim, please continue to utilize your MFDs directly for critical navigation and data management via SD card.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
